Reminder: In response to student requests, we have created Quiet Zones on the third and fourth floors of the Library. These may be just what you need as the end of the semester approaches. The Quiet Zones are study areas where you can review notes, work on papers, or find information free from distractions. Look for these areas when you need to concentrate.
In the Quiet Zone, talking should be kept to only the occasional whisper and there should be no loud music blaring from earbuds or talking on cell phones. If you need to use a cell phone, please move to the area around the stairway.
Help us keep these zones quiet by reminding other students of their purpose. If you feel uncomfortable approaching noisy users, you can call for backup. Use the chat, text or phone options on this page, and let us know exactly where the offenders are and give a brief description of them. If you call the phone number, select the Service Desk option. You can also use the house phone near the elevators. These are routed to the Service Desk. We'll send a library staffer up to check it out.

I think you need to post the quiet zone signs in the reading room. People never shut up in there!!! it is a READING room not a group study.
I didn't know a reading room exists in the library. But I think it would help if all study group rooms were locked so that anyone who needs a study group room can get one by going to the front desk. Often there are only one person in a room and that bugs me. The group has no where to meet.
@Anon April 17: Are you referring to the Buchanan room on the northwest corner of the 4th floor? We'll look into that.
@Anon April 19: We are considering making more group study rooms reservable but we don't intend to lock them. If you see one person using a study room alone and your group needs it, feel free to ask the single person to let you have it. There are signs posted that state that groups have first right to them. If a room is empty and there isn't a group wanting to use it, single users are allowed.
Yes!! The Buchannon Room! It is such a comfy place to do reading but it is impossible to get people to respect the space!! Please look into it THANKS
it would be helpful if somebody actually responded to the complaints. i have been sitting here for 20+ minutes waiting for somebody to come by and tell people to be quiet. the person i IM'ed with has said 2x that somebody will come by. well, where are they?
@Anon 3:28: I hope it has settled down up there now. I just talked to the staffer who did the walk through and she said she did talk to the noisy group (who were, of course, quiet by then). They promised to keep it down. If it persists, let us know again, and we'll try again.
I think it is ridiculous that we even have to have "quiet zones" in a LIBRARY. The entire library is for studying and research, not for socializing. If you have a group project, go into a group study room.
By the way... Still no posted quiet zone in the Buchannan Room and STILL a bunch of people yapping away everytime I go in there!
