Banned Books Week: Celebrating the Freedom to Read

Celebrate YOUR freedom to read during Banned Books Week, September 25−October 2, 2010

You can check out books from our cart of banned and challenged books in the atrium.

Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.

The American Library Association has compiled information about some of the most challenged books from last year. For more information on BBW, visit

One of my favorite "banned books" is The Higher Power of Lucky. Great book about a misfit ten year old and her misfit friends. The ridiculous reason for this book's challenges is right on the first page.
