Gallery Talk with artist Kathleen O'Connell

Artist and Assistant Professor of Art Kathleen O'Connell

Gallery Talk

Thursday, January 31st

4:30 pm

Special Collections area on 4th floor of Walker Library

O'Connell will be discussing her exhibit, Crossing Time and Space, currently on display in Special Collections. O’Connell, who has recently joined the Department of Art in Middle Tennessee State University as an Assistant Professor, was born and raised in Plattsburgh, New York. She earned a BFA from the State University of New York in Plattsburgh and an MFA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Before moving to Murfreesboro, she was living and working in Lima, Peru. The life and culture of that place as well as that of other areas where she has travelled infuse her art with color and energy. Time, space and travel are all major elements O’Connell cites as key to her creative process.

This exhibit highlights O’Connell’s book art produced during the last seven years. She also works in printmaking, drawing and sculpture and incorporates aspects of these media into her artists’ books.
For more information and photographs of the artist’s work, visit O’Connell’s website at kathleenoconnell.net.
This exhibit can be viewed in Walker Library’s Special Collections Reading Room and will be on display through January 31, 2013.
Special Collection Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

I wish I could have heard Kathleen's talk. She makes beautiful books and I'm happy they are featured in your exhibit at the Walker Library.

Greetings from Wisconsin.
