If you have trouble tearing yourself away from the library when we close at midnight (can't think of anyplace I would rather be at midnight), you'll be relieved to know we're on extended hours until the end of finals.
Friday, Dec 5: 7:30 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday, Dec 6: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Sunday, Dec 7: 1:00 pm - 1:00 am
Monday, Dec 8 through Wednesday, Dec 10: 7:30 am - 1:00 am.
For complete details about hours for the rest of December, see the library Web site.

The library should have longer hours during the regular year instead of just finals week. Maybe next fall the library can try closing at 2am or 3am for students who work during the day, and for those insomniacs. On Sun - Thurs maybe the library should try a trial period of closing later than 12am
Thank you for your feedback. As nice as it would to keep the library open longer hours, the current (dire) budget situation just doesn't allow it. We would need to hire extra people to staff the extra hours. In fact, our previous (normal) budget didn't allow it, either.
Oh, and you also have to factor in wear and tear on equipment, additional printing costs, and energy costs for the extra hours. We did an analysis some time back, and each additional hour that the library stays open costs tens of thousands per year. I don't have the actual dollar figure on hand, but it was a lot. One option we might consider is to shift the hours that we are open on weekends. It would be the same amount of hours, but perhaps they would be more convenient to users. During the week, we feel strongly that we should be open while classes are in session, so we probably couldn't open and close later Mon-Fri.
