I thought the whole library was supposed to be a quiet zone! What is wrong with the students here?

And what are we supposed to do when someone is talking on the phone/listening to music/"working" on a group project while in a "quiet zone"?? Do you really think a little sign is going to stop these idiots?

clementine: As your comment highlights, this is a tricky situation. We've heard from many students who value the library for its quiet research environment, but on the other hand, students do use the library for collaborative projects.

We hope that having designated quiet zones will help. You hit the nail on the head, however--We're relying on everyone's cooperation to make this work.

If you don't feel comfortable approaching someone about noise, feel free to pass the buck by IM'ing us, talking to the 1st floor service desk, or using a library help phone located near the upper floor copy rooms.

We hope library users will provide feedback about how things are going once the signage is in place.
