(Very) extended hours for exams

We heard you! The Library has extended its already extended exam hours to give you more time to study or finish that paper. On study day and exam days we will open early at 7am and close late at 3am. See specifics below.

Now before you go asking why we can't just be open 24 hours, hear this: we don't have that many staff members. We're going to have to mainline the existing late-night people with Red Bull and sew their eyelids open to keep the place open this long, but hey, we're proud to do it. No taunting the old folks if they nod off, though -- just give them a gentle nudge, ok?

Here are the extended hours:

Sunday, April 25 - 1pm-1am
Mon-Thurs April 26-28 - 7:30 am - 1am
Thursday, April 29 (Study Day) - 7am - 3am
Friday, April 30 - 7am - 5pm
Saturday, May 1 - 8am - 5pm
Sunday, May 2 - 1pm - 3am
Monday, May 3 - 7am - 3am
Tuesday, May 4 - 7am - 3am
Wednesday, May 5 - 7am - 3am
Thursday, May 6 - 7am - 3am
Friday, May 7 - 7am - 6pm
Saturday, May 8 Graduation!!!! Closed

Starbucks café inside Walker Library will be open longer hours too!!!!

Brought to you by the Walker Library and your Student Government Association Resolution 8-10-S.

I think the Walker library is one of the best things about MTSU. You all always try to do your very best to serve the students. Thank you!

Teachintenn -- thank you so much! We certainly do our best to serve our users, and it's great to hear that we are on the right track.

why does the library only stay open extended hours the week of exams?
Should the library not set a better precedent for studying and have extended hours the week before exams as well?

We do stay open later the week before exams. We are open until 1am.

I understand the library is understaffed for keeping it open 24 hours a day; but honestly, it's still pretty weak. Hire someone else to work those specific times, or offer an increased wage- there's got to be something that can be moved or cut, or not even cut, but budgeted better. The library is important, and during finals, I think it should be open 24 hours a day.

I am glad the library isn't open 24 hours a day. Not only would tuition go up (because we all would love for that to happen), but also the student workers are STUDENTS and do not need to be there at 5 am and make it to class by 8. Loss of sleep is inevitable in college; let's not facilitate the problem and realize that workers need downtime too. Anyway, isn't there a 24 hour computer lab...

The extended hours don't really help those of us who need a QUIET space in which to study. Rude people talking to each other and on cell phones just negate your diligent efforts to provide students with a place to study. I do appreciate your hard work and effort and am sad that it's spoiled by a few bad eggs.
